IELTS WRITING TOPICS, SEPTEMBER 2019

(Ac) The increase in production of consumer goods has damaged the environment. What is the damage caused by? What can be done to reduce the damage?

(GT) Some people say economic growth is the only way to combat world poverty and hunger. Some people say economic growth is damaging the environment and therefore must be restricted. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

(Ac) Some people think that cultural traditions will be destroyed as they are used as a means to make money. Other people believe that it is the only way these traditions can be preserved. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

(GT) It is a natural process when animal species become extinct (e.g. dinosaurs, dodos). There is no reason why people should stop happening this. Do you agree or disagree?

(Ac) In some countries students live at home with their family while they study at university, whereas in other countries students study in universities in other cities. Do the benefits of living away from home while studying at university outweigh the disadvantages?

(GT) Many adults do very little exercise. Some people think that showing big sporting events on TV will encourage adults to do more exercise. Other people believe there are better ways to encourage people to do more exercise. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

(Ac) Some people believe that universities should only offer places to young students with high marks. Others believe that people of all ages and with low marks should be allowed to study. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

(Ac) Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas are used in many countries. Recently some countries have started using alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power. Is this trend a positive or negative development?

 (GT) In some countries, the difference in age between parents and children is generally greater than in the past. Do you think the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?
