Very important tips to improve score in listening
*Listening section 1:*
It will be always a conversation between two guys regarding form filling, joining a centre and asking for personal information, or information about an event.
This would consist of:
*NAMES* - spelled out only if it's very difficult to write the spelling ourselves like *McKay* , *Wayne* etc if it's common names name like *James* , *George* , *WON'T* be spelled out. So know the spelling of common English names before exam which is very important
*STREET NAME* (WHICH WILL BE SPELLED OUT) and the above rule of spelling out applies here as well. Like car street, downtown etc won't be spelled out but Lincoln road, etc will be spelled out.
*_PHONE NUMBER_* (Remember they say zero as 'Oh' accent) be careful don't get distracted,
*CC number* : which is numeric
*postal code*: which is alphanumeric.
Pay very close attention as it is easiest section in listening part and you must aim for 10 out of 10.
*Listening section 2:*
*
Conversation between students and maps* :
Mostly distractors will be present. So pay attention and don't suspect answer in very first choice itself. Because all the choices will be heard and go back and forth. So conclude once you hear all the choices before jumping for correct answer
*_Maps_* Easy topic according to me, so practise the directional words like towards, on the left, dead end, towards South, along, diagonal opposite, corner, etc. So if you pay close attention you should score 10 out of 10 in this section also.
Listening section 3:
Usually two research students talking about presentation, project work, company decision about employees etc., Here again distractors will be present as ALWAYS please don't fall into the trap. Listen till the end and conclude the answer after striking out possible guesses. When money is being heard, make sure whether there is symbol of the currency present in the question like $,£ etc., You then need to write the numeral alone not the symbol or pounds, dollars followed by. For example, two and half pounds is always
£ 2.5 or 2.5 pounds or 2.50 pounds. so again if you pay very close attention and strike out distractors then you should score 10 out of 10 in this section also.
*Listening part 4:*
Difficult section in listening because all 10 questions are being listened at a go in a fast paced manner. Here I would recommend you not to worry if you miss some answer. Because 37/40 is 8.5 which is top band in listening. But still take it on your instincts and go for it. And try to score 10 out of 10.
So if you follow these minute tips you will obviously get the elusive 40/40 or 37,38,39/40 marks in listening.
*Liz* is best for these type of tips. 20th is pronounced as twentieth so 'ha' accent will be heard. If its 28th then it will be pronounced as twenty eighth. So there would 'eeeeee' should be heard in 'ty eigh' part of 28th. So easy, you can identify. Suggest you to follow the tips of Liz for listening, reading and Jay for speaking and writing and you will land in 9988 score for sure. But patience, determination, taking on the challenge is very important in preparation.
All the best for your exams.!!!
