IELTS Writing Task 2: genetic engineering essay

Image
Here's my sample essay for the question below. Genetic engineering is an important issue in society today. Some people think that it will improve people’s lives in many ways. Others feel that it may be a threat to life on earth. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. It is true that genetic engineering is a key area of modern scientific research, with broad implications for all human societies. While I accept that this field of technology may have its dangers, I believe that the benefits of genetic engineering outweigh the drawbacks. The negative implications of genetic engineering are often discussed in terms of two key areas, which are food production and the cloning of humans. Genetically modified crops are already being grown, and people are concerned that they may damage whole ecosystems as foods become resistant to diseases and natural predators. But perhaps even more worrying is the possibility that humans could be modified or cloned. ...

IELTS Writing Task 2 - Band 9 Sample Essay

Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Sample Essay: People have different views on the subjects that university students should be allowed to study. While some people think that students should only be able to study subjects that these people think will be valuable in the future like science and technology, I believe that students should be able to choose their area of study. For many people, restricting university students to subjects like science and technology is an easy argument to make. The main reason is that these kinds of subjects contribute visibly to society. For example, improvements in medicine rely on advances in medical research, engineering, and computer science and technology. Only allowing students to stud...

6.5 Bands Most people think modern games do not develop the skills of children. They claim that traditional games have more benefits on it. Do you agree or disagree? It is said by most that contemporary games do not contribute the development of children's abilities. In contrast, traditional games are considered to bring more benefits for children in some fields. I do completely accord with it because of learning processes and mental improvement. To embark on, modern games are counted to be as home games. In the other words, they are usually played on electronic devices such as computers and smartphones. Playing modern games brings some benefits such as children computer skills enhancement that is much needed now. However, there are many children becoming addicted because they spend the most of their free time with playing computer games. The effect of this addiction is children do not want to interact with the environment because they play the games in f...

What are the Common errors in IELTS Writing and Speaking

Image
What are the Common errors in IELTS Writing and Speaking Common mistakes I see in the writing exam are: -Not meeting the word count. -Adding opinions in Task 1. -Not highlighting all the main features in Task 1 (Really really common) -Not balancing the argument in Task 2 (If you have to, although you don’t always have to) -Using strange archaic language or memorized phrases that don’t make any sense. -Copying sentences from the question. -Using the same word again and again instead of pronouns.(he, she , it , my, him) -Just repeating what you said in the essay in the conclusion. -If you want to avoid these errors and improve then you can PM me on upmyielts on the Facebook page and we will send you a Task 1 or 2 (whichever you prefer) and help you raise your mark by 0.5 or 1.0. It is free to try. As for the speaking: -Don’t get offended if the examiner interrupts you. It is not you, it is the time! -Don’t talk about yourself or your experiences in Part 3. You did that in Part 2. ...

BAND 7 - TASK 1 ACADEMIC SAMPLE - IELTS

The map illustrates how a town in America developed between 1954 and 2014. Over the period the town went from having mainly residential and industrial areas to having mostly commercial units north of the canal and housing south of the canal. It also added some amenities such as an airport and a stadium. In the north-east of the town all of the factories were flattened to make way for a new airport and some buildings dedicated to commerce. Beside these commercial outlets a park made way for a new supermarket. In the centre of town some houses were demolished and commercial buildings were erected and this also occurred in the west, but a local supermarket was knocked down in order to make way for yet more commercial buildings. South of the canal remained relatively unchanged with all of the residential area remaining the same, but the church disappeared and there is now a sports arena in its place. Band 7

IELTS TASK 2 TOPIC 26 October 2019 - sample

Task 2 TOPIC  26 October  2019 Nowadays many students have the opportunity to study for part or all of their courses in foreign countries. While studying abroad brings many benefits to individual students, it also has a number of disadvantages. Do you agree or disagree? Higher standards of living and lower communication costs allow an increasing number of students, especially from high-income families, studying abroad. Studying and living far from home benefit a student in many ways, but also imply certain drawbacks. The most notable reason for following a degree in a foreign country is the high quality of the program offered. Universities in English-speaking countries such as Australia, the US or England attract an enormous number of foreign students every year for their prestigious status. They have not only quality teaching staff, but also modern facilities and equipment that are not available in schools in developing countries. Furthermore, young people a...
